We are next door to hundreds of square miles of BLM and San Juan National Forest land. Within a few minutes you can find the dynamic Dolores River Canyon Rim . We have panoramic beauty from both the ranch and lodge. Mountain views include to our north the LaSals, to our west the Abaho's or "Blues" and to the south the "Sleeping Ute" and to the southwest the Lucca Chuccas. You will want to bring your camera on this trip because "It doesn't get much better than this". From the canyon rim, east of the ranch you can see the San Juans with Lone Cone highlighting the view and off to the southwest the LaPlata's (which means silver in Spanish).
This is the west you've heard and read about, with one exception , this is real ! It is vast , unspoiled, and spectacular. It is a rugged wilderness that begs to be seen like the Spanish explorers first saw it. Much of this scenic wonder can be seen best on horseback, mountain bike, or by hiking.
We offer guided trailrides into the BLM, both inside the Dolores River Canyon next to the river and along the canyon rim. You may see our resident Desert Big Horn herd or you may come across an elk or deer, or anyone of the many wild animal species that populate the area.
After a day in the fresh mountain air, you'll get back to the ranch tired in body , but mentally and spiritually renewed , for you will have experienced the peace, grounding and rejuvenation that comes with a closer kinship with the splendor of our earth.
You'll be treated to another spectacular display hosted by Mother earth , later in the day, watching the sun go down over the"Blues" . You may be serenaded by our local singing group the "Four Corners Coyotes". As dusk deepens into night, you'll gaze with wonder at the spectacular night sky. High altitude and clean air the stars look like "diamonds on black velvet ". You may hear the breeze rustling through the trees, but mostly you will hear and feel the quiet sounds of high desert at night.
